The Solid mirror recalls a drop of molten
metal, but it is made of blown glass:
a technique with millennial tradition,
combined with the industrial treatment
of “metal coating” that makes the frame
surface become a mirror when the light is
switched off and lets the light pass when it
is switched on.

Lo specchio Solid ricorda una goccia
di metallo fuso, ma è realizzato in vetro
soffiato: una tecnica di millenaria tradizione
con in più un trattamento industriale di
“metal coating” che rende la superficie
della cornice riflettente quando la sorgente
luminosa interna è spenta e lasciando
attraversare la luce quando è accesa.

Working around the idea of a mirror we
were fascinated with the concept of giving
volume to an object that is usually
flat.
We imagined it like a drop of liquid metal on
the wall, but the idea of a single glass object
was both beautiful and difficult to achieve.
The three-dimensional volume had to have a
function, and so it became the ideal location
for the integrated light of the mirror.
Then we concentrated on the
finishing,
one of the key elements of the project. The
metal coating process (a technology usually
used for industrial parts) made the matter
semi-transparent so as to be permeable to
light. The result is an almost neo-primitive
object, strong and delicate at the same time.
The entire volume is in metallized glass.
The front has a perfect re
flection for the use
and the thickness of the side, once you turn
the mirror on, it allows light to pass for the
ambient lighting.
Lavorando intorno all’idea di uno specchio
abbiamo trovato affascinante la possibilit
à di
dare volume ad un oggetto che solitamente
è piatto. Lo abbiamo immaginato come una
goccia di metallo liquido sulla parete, ma l’idea di
fare un oggetto monomaterico in vetro era tanto
bella quanto difficile da realizzare. Il volume
tridimensionale doveva avere una funzione e
cos
ì è diventato la sede ideale per l’illuminazione
integrata dello specchio.
Ci siamo quindi concentrati sulla finitura, uno
degli elementi fondamentali del progetto:
il processo di metal coating (tecnologia
solitamente usata per pezzi industriali) ha reso
semitrasparente la materia in modo da essere
permeabile alla luce. Ne è uscito un oggetto
quasi neoprimitivo, forte e delicato al contempo.
L’intero volume è in vetro metallizzato: la parte
frontale ha una ri
flessione perfetta per l’uso e lo
spessore laterale, una volta acceso lo specchio,
lascia passare la luce per l’illuminazione
d’ambiente.
