Materials we use

Industrial plastic

Surplus or left-over plastic from industrial manufacturers can if granulated be used as a

binder material for our MatekTM production. Earlier this type of plastic was considered

production waste but fortunately, manufacturers have in later years realised that this is

a valuable resource suitable for recycling in other production cycles.

Coffee shell fibres

A by-product of the coffee roasting industry. Roasting coffee beans creates chaff – dried

skin that falls off due to the high temperature. This can be used as a strong fibre for our

MatekTM production. More than 10 billion pounds of coffee beans are harvested each

year making it one of the top three commodity-based industries in the world.

Sawdust

We collect the sawdust from our wood furniture production and use it as a fibre

material for our MatekTM production. Sawdust is often also used for heating

purposes, but this leads to CO2 emissions. Using the sawdust in our MatekTM

production captures the CO2 in the furniture.

Discarded fishing nets

More than 10 million tonnes of plastic waste end up in the oceans every year and it

is estimated that 20% of this comes from marine sources. Discarded fishing nets are

collected and made into pellets, also known as green plastic. We use recycled fishing

nets for our outdoor series and injection moulded chairs.
