CULTURE AND EDUCATION

Heydar Aliyev Cultural Centre

Designed by the eminent British-Iraqi architect Zada

Hadid to reflect the optimism of Azeri culture, the

fluid form of the 57,500-sq m (619,000 sq ft) complex

has become an iconic landmark in modern Baku.

Accommodating a 1,000-seat auditorium, exhibition

spaces, a conference centre, workshops, and a museum

over eight levels, this deliberate move away from the

monumentality of the earlier Soviet regime won the

Design Museum’s Design of the Year Award in 2014.
