We only use solid, healthy hardwoods, processing them with the precise knowledge of

the specific properties of each type of wood. About 60% of the wood comes from German

forests and 40 % from large forest areas in North America (Pennsylvania and Missouri). All

woods comply with FSC and PEFC standards. Currently, we use ash, oak, American cherry

wood as well as European and American walnut. The forests are located in the region

of our production sites. You will find detailed information in our sustainability report at

The craftsman’s care begins with the selection and bringing together of individual woods and ends with

treatments of the surface. Wood is a renewable resource and CO

-neutral. Compared with other mate-

rials its use requires the lowest amount of energy. Furniture with an exceptionally long life is produced

through careful design and manufacture.

The wood surfaces of ZEITRAUM furniture are impregnated with pure natural oils. These are

applied to the high precision-ground surfaces and then massaged by hand, creating a silky smooth,

resistant surface. When oiling the wood is impregnated at least 2 mm deep. This natural surface treat-

ment is free from contaminants. The wood can breathe, absorb and release moisture, unlike varnished,

coated finishes.

The porous surface which makes the interaction with the natural breathability of the solid

wood for a balanced room climate, prevents further charging and therefore attracts no dust, which is

especially important for people with allergies. The natural color variations of the wood is retained even

after the surface treatment.
