What in your opinion characterizes furniture designed by Flemming Lassen?

The furniture that Flemming Lassen designed in the period around 1930-1940 is characterized by a soft,

organic modernism that catches the tendencies that could also be found in the modern art and architecture from

the same period. Flemming Lassen elevates his upholstered pieces of furniture to become functional sculptures

in a room; in that sense he is in many ways ahead of the grand period of Danish furniture that arrives after 1945.

However, in his lifetime, his furniture was purchased by only a modest number of people with foresight.

What in your opinion characterizes furniture designed by Mogens Lassen?

As an architect and designer, Mogens Lassen was in many ways influenced by the same tendencies as his

brother Flemming. Yet he is somewhat more purely stamped by a continental European Modernism like that

expressed by Le Corbusier and the Bauhaus movement. In addition, Mogens Lassen was fascinated by Egypt

and the furniture discovered in the pyramids. His designs are therefore a mix of stringent lines and geometrical

shapes, sometimes with a hint of mysticism as if they came from an Egyptian tomb.
